The spider frightens her.
She is frightened.
The spider is frightening.
When we want to say how we feel, we can use -ed on the end of some verbs. For example, frighten + ed.
To describe the reason we feel like this, we use verb + ing. This could describe a person, an animal or a thing. For example, frighten + ing.
Another example:
My boss never stops talking. I feel very bored when I am with him because he is very boring.
There are lots of words which you can use like this.

- exhausted / exhausting
- embarrassed / embarrassing
- amused / amusing
- surprised / surprising
- amazed / amazing
- shocked / shocking
- excited / exciting
- worried / worrying
(The teacher isn't frightened of spiders, but she is frightened of wasps.)
